There is a Peace
A person, who is skeptical of Christ's existence, read one of my articles. I asked for their feedback on the article and they responded with, “What is the point?” They wanted to know what was the point in believing. Such a wonderful and challenging question!
So how does one answer such a question; especially if you consider yourself a Christian? We’re so confident in our belief in Christ but so unable to fully articulate the purpose of our belief. It is a compelling question for us to answer. I answered the question by saying that we are to take our place in the Kingdom of God. Simple answer but not so compelling.
Further, what is the Kingdom of God? To a person who does not fully believe, those words mean nothing; it sounds like a fanciful place. And if you were asked, “What is the Kingdom of God” how would you answer the question? You may stumble over the answer and eventually quote a Bible verse, such as Isaiah 11:6-9.
A Bible quote is great, but it still does not answer the question fully. Let’s be honest with ourselves, if there was a simple compelling answer, everyone would believe in Christ.
When my father was nearing the end of his life, we moved his bed downstairs to his living room because he was unable to walk up and down the stairs. I was with my father along with my brother, who was helping him dress, and my father said to my brother, “I just want to die.”
You see, when a person’s health fades with no hope of becoming better; they become tired; so emotionally tired they just want to leave this place of pain. A natural progress of life for all of us here on earth.
The good news is that when we die we will enter the Kingdom of God. We will be greeted by those whom we loved the most. They will have a gentle smile on their face as they approach us. Their smiles will communicate to us, “Welcome to the place of Peace”. And one by one they will embrace us. Their hugs will wash away all our worries and all the things that have trouble us will fade away.
And why do I believe in this place? Because I believe in Christ. It’s a relationship that I have with Christ and it is through our love for each other that I believe in Him; and it is through this love that I comprehend the Kingdom of God; words cannot describe this relationship, one has to experience it. There is no doubt in my mind this place of peace exists; I trust in Christ and therefore He promises this place as our reward for accepting Him as our savior.
Come weary and tired, worn out from life
And step out of the shadows, and walk into the light
Come sinner or saint, slave man or free
And bring blessing and offerings, then you shall see
Bring blessings and offerings, then you shall see
There is peace, to settle your soul
There is a peace that’s calling you home
You’ve been tempted and shaken, tested and failed
You’ve been so far from Jesus and too close to hell
For your vision’s been clouded by this world’s delight
But I tell you you’re not of this world, stand up and fight
You’re not of this world, stand up and fight
There’s a peace, to settle your soul
There is a peace that is calling you home
There is a peace, to settle your soul
There is a peace that is calling you home
It’s calling you home
It’s calling you home
Calling you home
