Rich Man

At the place I go to exercise, there are a lot of televisions hanging on the walls; some of which are sports channels. On one television I saw a snowmobile racing event.

It made me reflect on all the sports we have in this country and the amount of wealth being spent to support them all. Even this one small snowmobile event had to cost a lot of money to organize and televise.

It kills me inside though. We think we're "blessed" in this country because of the amount of wealth we have.

In Matthew 16:26, Jesus says, “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?” Do you think the rich man who lost his soul was blessed? Wealth alone is not a blessing according to Christ.

Blessed is a two way street. We receive what God gives us, and we are to use it as a means to serve others. Jesus calls us to serve others as a reflection of our love for Him. We are to spend our wealth helping others, such as feeding a child who has very little to no food to eat; instead of spending a large portion of our wealth on leisure activities to make ourselves happy.

“Well, then,” Jesus said, “give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.” -Matthew 22:21

Knowing that God has entrusted wealth to each of us, we are to transform it into a true blessing through serving others, and by doing so, we are truly honoring God.
